Australia recorded its first win at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup 2023 after defeating India.
The Socceroos earned a 2-0 victory over India in their Asian Cup Group B opener at the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium in Doha, Qatar, 토토사이트 추천 on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
The win puts Australia atop the group ahead of Syria, Uzbekistan and India, who have yet to play. The match between Syria and Uzbekistan will take place at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Contrary to expectations that Australia, ranked 25th in the FIFA rankings, would dominate against India, ranked 102nd, the Socceroos were scoreless in the first half.
In the second half, they got on the board right from the start. In the fifth minute of the second half, Jackson Irvine broke the deadlock when he calmly slotted home a ball that the opposing goalkeeper failed to handle correctly.
With the momentum on their side, Australia extended their lead to two goals in the 28th minute when Jordan Voss finished off a pass from Riley McGree down the right flank.
From there, both teams struggled to find an additional goal and a consolation goal, respectively, but neither could find the back of the net, and the match ended with a 2-0 victory for Australia.
The match also saw Japan’s Yoshimi Yamashita make history as the first female referee in Asian Cup history.
“As Japan’s first female referee, Yamashita has broken several barriers since she earned her FIFA badge in 2015,” the AFC said on Nov. 11. “She was the first female referee in Japan’s professional soccer J1 league in September 2022 and was one of six female match officials at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar,” it added.
