Hwang Sun-woo Faces Popovich for the First Time in a Year… Swimming Team Training in Europe

‘Korea’s signature swimming management’ Hwang Sun-woo (Gangwon Provincial Office) will face his ‘rival’ David Popovic (Romania) for the first time in a year.

Twelve athletes from the national team, including Hwang Sun-woo, Kim Woo-min (Gangwon Provincial Office), Joo-ho Lee (Seogwipo City Hall), and Kim Seo-young (Gyeongbuk Provincial Office),
who are aiming to qualify for the individual event or relay event at the 2024 Paris Olympics,

On the 29th and 30th local time, they will participate in the 2nd competition of the Mare Nostrum Series held in Barcelona, Spain,
and then move to Monaco to participate in the 3rd competition of the series on June 1st and 2nd.
Sunwoo Hwang will participate in the men’s 100m and 200m freestyle in the 2nd and 3rd competitions of the Mare Nostrum Series.
Rival Popovich is also expected to participate in the same event.
The match between Hwang Sun-woo and Popovich comes about a year after the Fukuoka World Aquatics Championships in July 2023.
At the Paris Olympics, Hwang Sun-woo and Popovich will compete in the 100m and 200m freestyle.
In this Mare Nostrum series, Sunwoo Hwang can check both his training performance and the current status of his competitors.
Kim Woo-min will compete in the men’s 400m freestyle,
Kim Seo-young will compete in the women’s 200m individual medley,
and Ji Yu-chan (Daegu Metropolitan City Hall) will compete in the men’s 50m freestyle.
