Former Tottenham and Fenerbahce SK manager Jose Mourinho (61) has expressed a strong desire to return to the English Premier League (EPL) once again.
“Mourinho is keen to take over from Eddie Howe at Newcastle if he leaves the club,” British media outlet The Guardian reported on Aug. 8 (KST).
“He believes there is a lack of interest in the Eredivisie from abroad and feels it is difficult to fight the system,” the paper added. Mourinho made the comments after the 3-2 win over Trabzonspor on April 4.
Mourinho has reportedly asked his agent to keep an eye on Newcastle’s progress. This is a clear indication that he is keen to return to the EPL.
Late last month, Mourinho said in an interview after Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United: “If a team in the lower divisions of England needs me in two years’ time, I will be happy to go. I hope it’s a team that doesn’t compete in Europe. I won’t go into details,” he said.
Mourinho signed a two-year, 파워볼사이트 £10.2 million-a-year contract with Fenerbahce this summer. It’s the highest salary in the league. However, he is keen to return to the EPL, a ‘global league’.
Fenerbahce hasn’t won the league since the 2013-2014 season.
They finished second to Galatasaray. They didn”t stand out in European competitions either. Mourinho, on the other hand, has won trophies with every team he’s managed except Tottenham.
After leading Porto and Chelsea in their golden years, Mourinho went on to manage Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, and AS Roma. However, in recent years, he has been criticized for falling behind the times.
He has had poor finishes with most teams since Chelsea. In a past interview with Sky Sports, Mourinho said, “I’m at a mature stage in my career and I try to take everything as it is, but my sacking at Tottenham was painful. I have no regrets, no bad feelings,” he said. It’s clear that he wants to return to prominence in the EPL.
Newcastle are currently performing well under Eddie Howe, but a managerial change could be on the cards if they fall from their current 11th place in the EPL.
