National Basketball Association (NBA) superstar LeBron James, 39, of the Los Angeles Lakers, will serve as the flag bearer for Team USA at the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The U.S. Olympic Committee announced today that James has been selected to serve as the men’s flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris. The U.S. flag bearer was voted on by the athletes. James will be joined by a female athlete who will lead the U.S. team in the opening ceremony. The Opening Ceremony will take place on Aug. 26 on the 파워볼사이트 Seine River.

James is still one of the NBA’s biggest stars despite his near-death experience. He is considered an icon of American sports beyond professional basketball. In March, midway through the 2023-24 season, he became the first player in NBA history to surpass 40,000 regular-season points. He currently has 44,474 points. He has been named an All-Star 20 times and won four championships. Recently, his eldest son, Brownie, was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the rookie draft, making LeBron and Brown the first father and son to share the court together on the same team in NBA history. It was LeBron’s dream to play alongside his son.

This will be James’ fourth Olympic appearance. He won a bronze medal in Athens in 2004, and gold in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012. Given his age, it’s likely that Paris will be his last Olympics.

“It is a tremendous honor to represent the United States on the world stage, especially in moments that can bring the entire world together,” James said via the USOC. This responsibility means everything, not only to me, but to my family, to all the kids in my hometown, to my teammates and fellow Olympians, and to so many people across the country,” James said in a statement. “Sports has the power to bring us all together, and I’m proud to be a part of this momentous occasion,” he said.

The James-led U.S. Men’s National Basketball Team will tip off against Serbia in Lille on Feb. 28 in the first game of Group C at the Paris Olympics. More than 350 of the 592 athletes who will compete in the Games will participate in the Opening Ceremony, according to the U.S. Olympic Committee.
