Professional basketball’s leading team, the Wonju DB, cruised to a 35-point victory over the last-place Seoul Samsung. Dedrick Lawson recorded his fourth career triple-double to lead the team to victory.

DB cruised to a 108-73 victory over the 2023-2024 regular season champions Samsung at Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Seoul on Tuesday, led by Lawson’s 24 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

With the win, DB improved to 28-9 on the season, extending its lead at the top of the standings to 4.5 games over second-place Seoul SK and Changwon LG (both 23-13). Samsung, on the other hand, which is mired in a 10-game losing streak, dropped to 5 wins and 31 losses.

DB scored 35 points in the third quarter alone to take a 6-point lead. Samsung scored just 17 points in the third quarter.

DB shot a total of 40 free throws, with 33 assists. The percentage of free throws made with an assist was a whopping 82.5%. This indicates that the entire team worked well together organically and unselfishly on offense.

DB’s 33 team assists are the most in the KBL this season. The previous record was 31 by the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis in a game on December 28 last year. Their opponent that day was Samsung. At the time, the Hyundai Mobis shot 79.5% from the field with an assistant. The league average is 57.7 percent.

Big man Kang Sang-jae had 15 points and 10 assists, while Lee Sun Albano added 16 points and nine assists.

Kim Jong-kyu was also a standout. Despite being matched up against Samsung’s leading scorer Kofi Coburn, Kim Jong-kyu contributed 24 points and seven rebounds to the win.

LG leapfrogged into second place. They beat Goyang Sono 74-70 away from home as the absence of Asem Marei continues. LG has won four of its last five games without Marei due to a knee injury.

They had only one foreign player, Juan Tello, but got an even performance from Yang Hong-seok, who had 19 points, five assists and four rebounds, rookie Yoo Yoo-sang, who added 18 points including four three-pointers, and veteran Lee Kwan-hee, who had 10 points.

For SONO, Chinanu Onuaku had 28 points and 11 rebounds and Lee Jung-hyun had 13 points and six assists, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the team from losing.
