Former South Korea Under-20 national soccer team coach Kim Eun-joong has been named an ambassador for a youth international tournament to be held in Seoul next month.
Kim received a certificate from Yoon Ki-young, chairman of the Korea Sports Agents Association, the organizers of the Seoul EOU Cup U-18 International Youth Football Tournament 2023, at a ceremony at Hyochang Stadium in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on Wednesday.
The Seoul EOU Cup U-18 International Youth Football Tournament will be hosted by the Korea Sports Agents Association, organized by the Seoul Sports Council, and sponsored by Seoul Metropolitan Government and Shinhan Bank from Oct. 10-15 at the Mokdong Sports Complex Main Stadium in Seoul.
U-18 national teams from Korea, Ukraine, Vietnam, and Morocco will compete in a pool league to determine the winner.
The tournament’s name, “EOU,” is an acronym for “EARTH ON US,” which the organizers say reflects their commitment to promoting the importance of a sustainable planet.
As the participating countries have experienced the pain of division and war, it is also meant to create a stage for peace and harmony by sweating together.
During the event, the organizers will also be working with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to encourage spectators to use public transportation and tumblers, and campaign for environmental donations.
Kim, who played a key role in nurturing the future of Korean soccer by leading South Korea to a fourth-place finish at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in May and June of this year, will be on hand to promote the tournament.
“I am grateful to be appointed as an ambassador for such a great tournament. I think this tournament will be a good experience for the players,” said Kim. “I will do my best to make the tournament a success and provide great encouragement to the dreamers.”
In particular, he said, “Ukraine is going through a difficult situation due to the war and Morocco is going through a difficult situation due to the recent earthquake, and I hope that soccer can become a dream and hope for the players.”
Sung Jung-ki, President of the Seoul Football Association, said, “We are honored to host the tournament. We are honored to host the tournament,” he said, adding, “I think the tournament will shine brighter with Coach Kim Eun-joong’s participation. 안전놀이터
