Samsung Fire has reached the final of the Professional Volleyball Cup for the first time in five years. Samsung Fire defeated last year’s champions Korean Air 3-1 (25-18 22-25 25-22 25-22) in the men’s semi-finals of the 2023 Gumi Dodram Cup Professional Volleyball Competition (the Cup) at Park Jung-hee Gymnasium in Gumi, Gyeongbuk, on ednesday. Samsung Fire is making its first appearance in the final of the Cup for five years since 2018, when it defeated KB Insurance to win the title. Korean Air, who came into the tournament with just 10 players after sending key players to the Asian Volleyball Championships and the Summer World University Games, played creative volleyball with positional breakdowns to top Group A, but fell short in the semi-finals due to poor fitness .Korean Air won the triple crown last season, winning the cup, regular season and championship. They were led by the formidable offence of the Samsung Fire triple tower of Kim Jung-ho (23 points), Park Sung-jin (23 points) and Shin Shin-ho (22 points). The trio were on fire, each boasting an attack success rate of over 50 per cent.
