Ulsan HD staged a beautiful farewell on the road.
Ulsan, looking to win their third consecutive K League 1 title, decided to shake up their attacking lineup in the summer transfer window. The decision was made to part ways with Martin Adam, who had been a consistent frontline player for Ulsan and helped them win the title.
Martin Adam has been a revelation in Europe as well. He arrived in Ulsan two summers ago after winning the Hungarian league’s top scorer award, and has shown a devastating ability to match his majestic physique.
Despite playing only the second half of his rookie year, he put up a solid performance with nine goals and four assists in 14 games. More than just his attacking points, he scored many crucial goals that decided the championship, especially in the rivalry match against Jeonbuk Hyundai, which was like a final, as he scored two goals in the second half of extra time and played a crucial role in winning the title for the first time in 17 years.
Martin Adam, who seemed to be a stalwart of Ulsan’s front line, has struggled for playing time since last year. He struggled to compete for a starting spot with the arrival of international striker Lee Min-kyu and Rubikson, who provides attacking firepower from the flanks. Still, he was a prolific scorer. He scored three goals in 10 games this year after five last year, but his ups and downs increased with the reduced playing time, leading to Ulsan’s decision.
Martin Adam was called up to the Hungarian national team for the UEFA European Football Championship 2024 (Euro 2024) last month and made a splash with his performances against Germany, Switzerland and 야설 Scotland. However, Ulsan’s spear lost a lot of strength during his long absence, and the team immediately turned to the need for more power.
With the separation set in stone, Martin Adam showed up in Suwon. On May 5, during the away match against Suwon FC in the 21st round of the Hana Bank K League 1 2024 at Suwon Sports Complex, Martin Adam appeared in the stands as a supporter of Ulsan. At the end of the game, Martin Adam took to the megaphone to give a final greeting to the Ulsan fans.
Hong thanked Martin Adam for accompanying him on the expedition. “The contract was terminated by mutual agreement,” he said, explaining that “Martin Adam wanted to stay in Europe, and there were family difficulties.”
Ulsan also freed Martin Adam for the greater good. “It’s not easy to let a player go without a transfer fee when he’s under contract, but I think he deserves to be a free agent after what he’s done for us,” said Hong Myung-bo. “It’s a shame that he couldn’t stay with us longer. I wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up,” he concluded.
