South Korea’s Olympic soccer team, led by head coach Hwang Sun-hong, is determined to qualify for its 10th consecutive Olympic Games.
The Olympic football team will compete at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-23 Asian Cup 2024 in Doha, Qatar, from May 15 to June 3. The team will be looking to qualify for a record 10th consecutive Olympic Games.
The top three finishers will qualify for Paris 2024. The fourth-place finisher will have to play a playoff against Guinea in Africa.
The April issue of Onside, a monthly technical report published by the Korea Football Association, includes the results of a survey of the national team’s players. All of the respondents said that their goal is to win the Asian Cup.
South Korea is in Group B of the 16-nation tournament, along with Japan, 스포츠토토 the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and China.
When asked who they would most like to beat, the unanimous answer was Japan.
South Korea lost to Japan 0-3 in the quarterfinals of the 2022 U-23 Asian Cup. They are determined to avenge the loss and restore their pride.
Goalkeeper Kim Jung-hoon (Jeonbuk) said, “I don’t need to say anything else,” referring to the symbolism of the Korea-Japan match. “I want to beat Japan more than any other team,” said Lee Young-joon (Gimcheon). Kim Min-woo (Düsseldorf) added, “I think Japan is the best team in our group, so it’s an important game for us.”
The players’ favorite Korean player (including retired players) was Park Ji-sung.
